What Things Can You Do To Help The Environment

What Things Can You Do To Help The Environment

Okay, let's talk about saving the planet. Before you roll your eyes, I promise this won't be preachy. We all know the world is warming up faster than my coffee in the microwave. So, what can we actually do, besides feel guilty?

Embrace Your Inner Lazy (Slightly)

I'm going to say something controversial: I'm not a fan of eco-perfection. Trying to be 100% sustainable all the time is exhausting. And honestly? Sometimes, I just want to order takeout in a plastic container. Sue me!

My (slightly unpopular) opinion is: small, consistent changes are better than huge, unsustainable efforts. Start small. Pick a few things and actually stick with them. Trust me, the planet will appreciate the effort, even if it's not Instagram-worthy.

So, what are these lazy-friendly things? Well, I switched to reusable shopping bags. I know, I know, everyone does that. But I actually keep them in my car now. Revolutionary, right?

Another thing? I stopped buying bottled water. Okay, most of the time. I admit, sometimes that convenience store iced tea is just too tempting. But generally, I refill my water bottle. One less piece of plastic floating in the ocean.

Dishwasher Devotee

Here's another one that might ruffle some feathers: I love my dishwasher. Seriously. Hand-washing dishes? Ain't nobody got time for that! And surprisingly, a dishwasher is often more water-efficient than hand-washing, especially if you fill it completely. So, I'm doing my part for the environment by being a little lazy in the kitchen. Thanks, Maytag!

Food, Glorious Food (Waste)

Food waste is a massive problem. Did you know that tons of edible food get thrown away every day? It's depressing. So, I've made it my mission to be a better food preserver. It’s fun to learn how to preserve fruit and vegetables.

Leftovers are my friend. I used to just toss them. Now, I try to reinvent them. Leftover chicken becomes chicken salad. Veggie scraps become soup stock. I’m basically a food wizard.

I also try to plan my meals a little better. Okay, a very little better. Grocery shopping when hungry? Disaster. I end up with ten different kinds of snacks and nothing for actual meals. A quick meal plan (even a rough one) helps me buy only what I need.

The Great Lightbulb Conspiracy

Remember when everyone was freaking out about lightbulbs? Switching to energy-efficient ones? Well, I finally got around to it. And honestly, I barely noticed a difference. Except my electricity bill is slightly lower. So, thanks, eco-friendly lightbulbs! You're doing your thing while I watch Netflix.

I also try to turn off lights when I leave a room. My mom would be so proud. Although, I still forget sometimes. Old habits die hard, especially when you're engrossed in Stranger Things.

Embrace the Secondhand

Shopping secondhand is surprisingly fun. You never know what treasures you'll find. Plus, you're giving clothes a second life, which is way better than them ending up in a landfill. I’ve found some of my favorite clothes at thrift stores. And they’re usually cheaper! Win-win.

Furniture, too! You can often find beautiful, well-made furniture at consignment shops. It just needs a little TLC. And maybe a good cleaning. But it's way more sustainable than buying new, mass-produced stuff. My antique chair is proud to be reused.

The Unpopular Opinion

Look, saving the planet isn't about being perfect. It's about making conscious choices. It’s about finding small, sustainable ways to reduce your impact. It's about embracing a little bit of laziness and a whole lot of practicality. So, go forth and be slightly eco-conscious. The planet will thank you (eventually).

And if you occasionally slip up and order that plastic-wrapped burger? Don't beat yourself up. Just try again tomorrow.

Plus, if we're all doing a little bit, that adds up to a whole lot. So let's stop feeling guilty and start feeling empowered. Even if that empowerment comes with a side of takeout.

And if my suggestions were terrible, well, at least I tried. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to refill my water bottle and binge-watch something on Netflix.
