Square Card Reader Lightning Port

Square Card Reader Lightning Port

Okay, people. Let’s talk about something. Something that's probably more controversial than pineapple on pizza. Ready? Here it is.

I kind of… love the Square Card Reader with the Lightning port.

I know, I know. Hear me out! Before you grab your pitchforks and torches, let me explain. Or, at least, try to justify my seemingly insane opinion.

First, let's acknowledge the obvious. The Lightning port. It’s… divisive. Apple's commitment to it feels like they’re stubbornly clinging to a rotary phone in a world of smartphones. We get it. USB-C is the future. The one true port to rule them all. I'm not disagreeing! But...

But there's something undeniably convenient about that little Square Card Reader just plugging right into your iPhone. No dongles! No adapters! No frantic searching for the right cable that inevitably ends up tangled in a drawer somewhere.

Think about it. You're at a farmer's market, selling your artisanal sourdough bread. A customer pulls out their card. You whip out your phone and the Square Reader. Click! It's in. Boom! Transaction complete. No fumbling, no fuss. Pure, unadulterated, points-of-sale bliss.

Now, imagine that scenario with a USB-C reader. Suddenly, you need an adapter. An adapter that, let's be honest, you probably left at home. Or, even worse, an adapter that's mysteriously vanished into the void from whence all lost socks and remote controls originate. Your sourdough dreams are crumbling before your very eyes.

Okay, maybe I'm being dramatic. But the point is, there's a simplicity to the Lightning connection that's hard to ignore. It's… elegant. In a weird, Apple-knows-best kind of way.

And let's not forget the satisfying click it makes when you plug it in. It's like a tiny, auditory confirmation that you're about to make money. I'm not ashamed to admit, I live for that click.

The Dongle Dilemma

Seriously, who enjoys dongles? They're the accessory equivalent of that awkward third wheel who always shows up uninvited. You never want them around, but you're forced to tolerate their presence.

With the Lightning Square Reader, the dongle is banished! Freedom! It’s a small victory, sure, but it's a victory nonetheless.

Plus, let's be real. If you're using an iPhone, you probably have a drawer full of Lightning cables already. You’re basically swimming in them! What's one more device that uses the same port? It’s not like you’re lacking charging options.

The Battery Life Question

Some people complain that the Lightning Square Reader drains their phone battery. And okay, maybe it does a little. But is it really that much worse than streaming cat videos for hours on end? I think not.

And honestly, if you’re running a business, you should probably have a portable charger anyway. Problem solved!

So, there you have it. My (probably) unpopular opinion on the Lightning Square Card Reader. It’s simple, it’s convenient, and it avoids the dreaded dongle. What's not to love?

Now, I brace myself for the backlash. Feel free to @ me on Twitter. But deep down, I know I'm right. Or, at least, I'm willing to die on this slightly ridiculous hill.

And if all else fails, I'll just keep enjoying my dongle-free transactions in blissful silence.

Just try and take that click away from me.
