Smithsonian National Zoological Park By Owner

Smithsonian National Zoological Park By Owner

Okay, okay, hear me out. I know what you're thinking. "The Smithsonian National Zoological Park? Owned by...me? Absurd!" But let's just pretend, for a little bit, that I woke up one morning and found a deed. A really, really big deed. This deed said, in fancy calligraphy, that I, yes I, am now the proud owner of all those pandas, primates, and prairie dogs.

First things first: more snack carts! I'm serious. Walking around that giant park is exhausting. We need more options. Think gourmet popcorn. Think frozen lemonade in animal-shaped cups. Think tiny, adorable sandwiches shaped like...well, you get the idea. If I owned the place, snack availability would be priority number one. Public service announcement: I would lower prices!

My Unpopular Opinion About Animal Enclosures

Now, about the exhibits. Most of them are great! They're well-maintained, informative, and seem to genuinely care about the animals. But… and here comes the unpopular opinion… some need a little re-thinking. The elephants, for instance. Big, majestic creatures. Do they really enjoy just…standing around? Okay, there is a lot of roaming. Let's invest in an elephant-sized water slide. Imagine the joy! The splashing! The internet videos! I would consider that ethical for the animal's mental state!

And the lions? Let's be honest, they mostly sleep. I get it. Lions sleep a lot. But maybe a giant, interactive scratching post? A laser pointer (supervised, of course!)? Something to spice things up. Or, hear me out, a REALLY good documentary playing on repeat about the Serengeti. Maybe that would stimulate their inner hunter.

Pandas: Let's Talk Pandas

The pandas. Everyone loves the pandas. I love the pandas! They are adorable. End of story. But, if I owned the zoo, I would institute a strict "no interrupting panda naps" policy. Those little guys work hard at being cute. They deserve their rest. Also, more bamboo. Always more bamboo. A mountain of bamboo, if possible.

I also think we need to address the panda naming situation. It's a bit… predictable. Something new and exciting! I am up for any and all suggestions.

Staff Appreciation: A Must!

Of course, owning the National Zoo isn't just about the animals (though, let's be honest, they're a big part of it). It's about the people who work there. The zookeepers, the educators, the maintenance staff, the volunteers – they are the heart and soul of the place. So, under my ownership, everyone gets a raise! And free zoo admission for life! And a dedicated nap room with panda-themed pillows!

More specifically: A mandatory annual "Zookeeper Appreciation Day" featuring free ice cream, silly string fights (with biodegradable silly string, of course!), and heartfelt speeches about how much we appreciate their hard work. It's the least I could do.

A Touch of Whimsy

Finally, a touch of whimsy. Hidden throughout the zoo, I would install miniature, fairy-sized houses. Not for any particular reason, just because. Imagine stumbling upon a tiny, thatched-roof cottage nestled in the roots of a giant oak tree. Or a miniature log cabin tucked away in the primate enclosure. Wouldn't that be magical?

Okay, so maybe I don't actually own the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. But a girl can dream, right? And if I did, I'd make it the snackiest, most elephant-water-slide-y, most panda-nap-friendly zoo on the planet. And the staff would definitely feel appreciated.

I encourage you to visit the Zoo! They are doing some great work in animal conservancy. You can find more information about the park and its missions on the Smithsonian's website.

So, what do you think? Would you visit my zoo? Be honest!
