Poison The Well Tear From The Red Vinyl
Okay, Let's Talk About Tear From The Red
I know, I know. It’s a sacred cow for some. A pillar of 2000s hardcore. But hear me out.
Is it really that good?
Don't get me wrong, Poison The Well is amazing. The Opposite of December is a masterpiece. We can all agree on that, right?
But Tear From The Red? Sometimes, I think it gets a bit… overrated. Please don’t send hate mail!
Must Read
Maybe it's just me. Maybe my ears are broken. But I feel like it's the band trying too hard.
Everyone loves to talk about it. It's always mentioned in the "best of" lists. It's basically mandatory to like it if you like hardcore.
The Hype Is Real...Or Is It?
The energy is undeniable. The breakdowns hit hard, sure. But the songwriting...I find it a little inconsistent sometimes.
Some parts are absolutely brilliant. Others...kinda blur together for me. It all feels very chaotic. I get a headache if I listen to it for extended period of time.
I feel like I'm missing something. Everyone else seems to get it. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Maybe it's because I came to it later. Maybe if I had heard it when it first came out, it would be different. I don't know.
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Prepare yourselves. This might be controversial. I think You Come Before You is a better album.
Gasp! Clutch your pearls! I said it. Sue me.
It feels more focused. More cohesive. The songwriting is tighter. Fight me.
Okay, don't actually fight me. I'm just kidding. Mostly.

I'm not saying Tear From The Red is bad. It's not. It’s just...not my favorite.
Let's Talk About the Vocals
The vocals are definitely intense. And I appreciate that. But sometimes, they sound a little... strained?
Like the vocalist is trying a little too hard to sound tormented. Maybe he was tormented. Who knows?
But it doesn’t always connect with me. Sometimes it feels like yelling for the sake of yelling.
It's the "screamo" era, what do you expect? I know, I know. I get it.

The Production...Hmm...
The production is also something I'm not crazy about. It feels a little muddy to me.
Everything kinda blends together. I wish the instruments were more distinct. Is it just me?
Again, maybe it’s just my ears. Maybe I need to get them checked. My hearing is not the greatest.
Or maybe, just maybe, the production hasn’t aged all that well. Some things sound dated now.
I'm Not a Hater, I Promise!
Look, I'm not trying to hate on Poison The Well. I love them. Truly.

They're one of the most influential bands in hardcore. They pushed boundaries. They took risks.
I just think Tear From The Red gets more praise than it deserves. There, I said it again. Let the downvotes commence!
So, what do you think? Am I crazy? Am I completely missing the point? Let me know in the comments!
Or, you know, just yell at me online. That's cool too. I'm used to it.
Just remember to be nice. Or at least, try to be. Please?
