Lost Daughter Rotten Tomatoes

Lost Daughter Rotten Tomatoes

Okay, let's talk about The Lost Daughter. Specifically, its Rotten Tomatoes score. A hefty 95%, huh? Everyone seems to love it.

And look, I get it. Olivia Colman. Need I say more? She's phenomenal. A true queen. Plus, it's a complex story about motherhood. Heavy stuff.

But... (and this is a big but, the kind that Sir Mix-A-Lot would appreciate) ...am I the only one who thought it was a tad...overrated?

Don't get me wrong. It's a well-made film. The acting is superb. The scenery in Greece is gorgeous. You almost want to book a vacation there, even with all the internal turmoil unfolding on screen.

However, something just didn’t quite click for me. I walked away feeling…underwhelmed. Like I'd just eaten a really fancy meal that tasted…fine. Technically perfect, but missing that oomph.

The Dreaded Relatability Factor

Maybe it's a relatability thing. This is where I might lose some of you. The film explores themes of maternal regret and the complexities of being a parent. This is obviously something incredibly personal.

And while I appreciate films that tackle difficult subjects, I sometimes felt like Leda, Olivia Colman's character, was just…unpleasant. I struggled to empathize. Maybe that's the point! Maybe I'm supposed to feel uncomfortable.

But honestly, by the end, I just wanted to shake her and say, "Girl, get a grip!"

I understand motherhood is hard. I know it's not all sunshine and rainbows. But the intensity of the negativity sometimes felt... excessive.

Then there is the whole subplot with the doll. That doll! It drove me nuts! I found myself thinking, "It's a doll! Just give it back!" Maybe I’m too simple minded for such a deep film.

Did Everyone Else See Something I Missed?

So, here I am, feeling like I'm in a minority of one. Did everyone else connect with The Lost Daughter on a profound, emotional level?

Did you sob uncontrollably? Did it change your perspective on motherhood forever?

If so, I salute you. I genuinely do. I'm glad you found something meaningful in it.

But for me, it was a beautifully shot, well-acted movie that ultimately left me feeling...meh.

I feel like I’m committing cinematic blasphemy here! Like I’m saying I don’t like puppies or sunshine.

Maybe I went in with too high expectations because of the Rotten Tomatoes score. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Maybe I just prefer movies where everyone isn't constantly miserable.

All I know is that sometimes, even the most critically acclaimed films just don't resonate with everyone.

Unpopular Opinion Time

So, here's my unpopular opinion: The Lost Daughter is good, but not 95% Rotten Tomatoes good. It’s more like a solid 75%. Maybe even an 80% on a good day if I’ve had enough coffee.

There, I said it. Judge me if you must.

I’m prepared for the backlash. Bring on the angry comments! Tell me how wrong I am!

But before you do, ask yourself: did you really love it? Or did you just feel like you should love it because everyone else did?

Maybe, just maybe, some of you secretly agree with me. Maybe you, too, were slightly underwhelmed by The Lost Daughter.

And if that's the case, welcome to the club. We can form a support group for people who think Olivia Colman is amazing but weren't completely blown away by this particular film. We can call it "The Slightly Disappointed Daughter Society."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch a rom-com. Something with sunshine, puppies, and a guaranteed happy ending. Don’t tell anyone.
