Instant Pot Pressure Cooker And Slow Cooker

Okay, let's talk Instant Pots. Those shiny, multi-functional kitchen gadgets. Everyone seems obsessed. And I'm... well, I'm here to say something controversial.
I think they're a bit overhyped. Gasp! I know, I know.
Pressure Cooker Panic
First, the pressure cooker function. It's supposed to be revolutionary, right? Cooking beans in minutes? Making tough cuts of meat tender in record time?
Must Read
Sure, theoretically. But I always feel like I'm defusing a bomb. All that hissing and steaming makes me nervous.
I keep envisioning a kitchen ceiling covered in chili. Maybe it's just me. But pressure cooking feels…high-stakes.
And let's be honest, the "minutes" they advertise don't include the time it takes to come to pressure. Or the time it takes to release it! So, it's not quite as instant as the name implies.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race?
Then there's the slow cooker function. This is where I really get controversial.
Because I have a slow cooker. An actual, dedicated slow cooker. And I think it does a better job.
Hear me out! It feels like the Instant Pot's slow cooker setting is just…lukewarm. My old faithful gets things hot. Properly hot.
Maybe it's psychological. Maybe I just prefer the simplicity of one knob. But the results are different, I swear!

I've tried various recipes in the Instant Pot as a slow cooker. Pulled pork? Chili? Stew? It's always…fine. Just not amazing. Not "lick-the-crock-clean" good.
My real slow cooker, on the other hand, consistently delivers. It's the kitchen equivalent of a reliable old friend.
The Many Buttons! The Confusion!
Another gripe? All those buttons! I understand that it has to be functional and provide settings but when I look at that panel, I immediately get overwhelmed.
Each one promises a different culinary outcome, but I'm never quite sure which one to choose. There seems to be hundreds!
I end up Googling it every single time. Am I the only one who finds the control panel intimidating?
The Cleaning Conundrum
Cleaning the Instant Pot is another joy. Said no one ever.
All those little nooks and crannies! The sealing ring that seems to absorb every smell imaginable! It’s a nightmare.

I find myself spending more time cleaning the thing than I do actually cooking in it. That seems a bit backwards, doesn't it?
And let's not even talk about the time I forgot to clean the sealing ring properly. My entire kitchen smelled like chili for a week.
A Tool for Every Task
Now, before you grab your pitchforks, let me clarify. I'm not saying the Instant Pot is useless. It definitely has its place.
For busy weeknights, it can be a lifesaver. Need to cook rice quickly? The Instant Pot is your friend.
Forgot to thaw the chicken? The pressure cooker can help. (Although, I still get nervous about that whole pressure cooking thing…)
It’s also great for making yogurt, apparently. I haven't tried that yet. Maybe that's the key to unlocking its true potential.
The Space-Saving Myth
One of the big selling points is that it saves space. It’s supposed to replace multiple appliances. And that appeals to me because I live in a tiny apartment.
But does it really save space? It's still a bulky appliance. It still needs to be stored somewhere. And then you have all the accessories!

I feel like I've just replaced a few smaller appliances with one giant one. A very shiny, very intimidating giant.
And don't even get me started on the pile of Instant Pot cookbooks I've accumulated. I need a whole new shelf just for them!
My Unpopular Opinion (Prepare Yourselves!)
So, here it is. My unpopular opinion in a nutshell.
The Instant Pot is a good appliance. It's versatile and convenient. But it's not the kitchen messiah everyone makes it out to be.
It doesn't magically make me a better cook. It doesn't make my food taste better. And it certainly doesn't make cooking less stressful.
I think it's just another tool in the kitchen toolbox. A tool that's sometimes useful, sometimes not.
The Lure of Nostalgia
Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. Maybe I prefer the slow, deliberate pace of traditional cooking. I love the smells that simmer through my home while I cook.

There's something comforting about tending to a pot on the stove. About watching a sauce thicken, a stew simmer.
It's a connection to the past. To my grandmother's kitchen. To recipes that have been passed down through generations. Recipes you can't "quick cook".
I'll keep using my Instant Pot. I'll experiment with new recipes. I'll even try making yogurt eventually.
Embrace the Old Fashioned
But I'll also keep my trusty slow cooker. I'll keep my Dutch oven. I'll keep my grandmother's recipe book close at hand.
Because sometimes, the best things in life are worth waiting for. Even in the kitchen.
So next time you reach for your Instant Pot, consider the alternative. Maybe slow down a little. Maybe savor the process. You might be surprised at what you discover.
And that's okay if you disagree with me. After all, that's why it is called an unpopular opinion.
My Instant Pot may have its purposes, but it doesn't mean I need to give up my slow cooking.
