How Much To Hvac Techs Make
Let's talk HVAC techs. Those folks who keep us from melting in summer. And freezing in winter! But what’s in their wallets? More importantly, are they living the good life?
The Great HVAC Salary Mystery
HVAC tech salaries are like that thermostat you can never quite figure out. Is it 72? Or 78? It depends!
You’ll see numbers online. Big numbers! Some claim they're raking in serious dough. But let's be real, averages can be deceiving.
Must Read
Experience is Everything (Kinda)
Of course, experience matters. A fresh-out-of-trade-school newbie won't command the same rate as a seasoned pro. That makes sense, right?
More years under your belt usually mean bigger paychecks. You’ve seen it all. Fixed it all. That experience is valuable!
But experience isn’t the only piece of the pie. Let’s dive deeper.
Location, Location, Location!
Where you work makes a huge difference. Living in a scorching desert? HVAC techs are basically royalty!
In milder climates? Maybe not so much. It’s supply and demand, baby!
Big cities also tend to pay more. Cost of living, you know? Everything’s expensive!

The "Are You Certified?" Question
Certifications matter. Think of them as shiny badges of HVAC honor. The more you have, the better.
Companies love certified techs. It shows you’re serious. And it proves you know your stuff.
Plus, some jobs require certain certifications. So get those credentials!
Unpopular Opinion Time: Are They Overpaid?
Okay, here’s where I might make some enemies. Are HVAC techs overpaid? Hear me out!
They work hard. Really hard. In attics. In crawl spaces. In extreme temperatures. I get it.
But...are they commanding surgeon-level salaries? Probably not. And maybe that's okay?

My unpopular opinion? Skilled trades deserve respect. And fair pay. But let's not pretend they're all driving Lamborghinis.
The demand is high, however. People will always need heating and cooling. So they'll probably always be in demand.
I'm not saying they should work for peanuts. I just think the reported averages can be misleading.
Beyond the Paycheck: The Perks of the Trade
Money isn't everything. (I know, easier said than done!) What else do HVAC techs get?
Job security is a big one. Like, huge. People always need their AC fixed.
And you're your own boss. You get the problem, the parts and the place. Now fix it.

Then there's the satisfaction of fixing things. It's a tangible skill. You can see the results of your labor.
So, How Much DO They REALLY Make?
Okay, okay, I’ll try to give you a straight answer. It's complicated. Still.
Entry-level? Maybe around $40,000-$50,000. Experienced techs in high-demand areas? Potentially six figures. But that's the exception, not the rule.
The real answer lies somewhere in between. It depends on all the factors we’ve discussed.
The Future of HVAC Salaries
One thing’s for sure: the demand for HVAC techs isn't going away. Climate change is a thing. And people like being comfortable.
That means salaries will likely stay competitive. Maybe even increase.

So, if you're considering a career in HVAC? It might be a smart move. Just don't expect to become a millionaire overnight. (Unless you invent a self-cleaning air duct. Then, call me!)
Final Thoughts (and a Disclaimer)
This is just my take. My slightly cynical, slightly humorous, take. I’m not an HVAC expert.
I’m just a person who likes being comfortable. And who appreciates the people who make that possible.
So, the next time your AC goes out? Cut your HVAC tech some slack. And maybe offer them a cold drink. They deserve it.
Especially if they're working in August in Phoenix. Those guys are heroes.
