Drivers Make An Estimated Decisions A Minute

Drivers Make An Estimated Decisions A Minute

Driving. It's something most of us do every day. We hop in, buckle up, and zoom off.

But have you ever stopped to think about just how much your brain is working? Buckle up, because it's a wild ride!

Decisions, Decisions Everywhere!

They say drivers make about a decision a minute. Yes, 60 decisions in 60 seconds! That's more than I make deciding what to have for breakfast.

Is that car merging? Is the light about to turn yellow? Should I blast that questionable 80s power ballad?

Your brain is constantly calculating risks and rewards. It's basically a tiny, stressed-out accountant in your head.

I think the 'one decision a minute' is probably a huge underestimate. We're deciding about micro-adjustments all the time.

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

Here's my possibly controversial take: I think driving makes us better decision-makers in general.

Think about it. You're constantly assessing situations under pressure. That's great practice for life!

My partner says I make questionable decisions when not driving. I think he's just jealous of my superior road skills.

The Great Signal Dilemma

One of the biggest decision-making areas? Turn signals. Ah, the turn signal. The universal symbol for "I might, or might not, turn."

Do you use it early? Do you use it late? Do you forget about it entirely? (Please, don't do that last one.)

A late turn signal is a subtle art of letting the person know when you're already half way in their lane. It's an aggressive dance of metal and nerve!

The other day I saw someone use a turn signal after they'd already completed the turn! Bold move, my friend.

I'm convinced some people think turn signals are purely decorative. Like little orange Christmas lights for your car.

The Perpetual Speed Limit Debate

And then there's speed. What is the optimal speed? The speed limit? The speed of the flow of traffic? The speed at which you can still spill your coffee?

These are the questions that plague drivers everywhere. My personal philosophy is: "Go with the flow, but don't get a ticket." Wise words, indeed.

Speeding is a risk. A thrilling risk that some people... well, I won't condone it. But I understand it.

Yielding: The Ultimate Test

Yielding. Now there's a concept ripe for misinterpretation. Does "yield" mean "slow down slightly" or "come to a complete stop and question your life choices?"

The answer, of course, is it depends. On the traffic. On your mood. On whether you had that second cup of coffee.

I once saw two cars yield to each other at the same time. It was a beautiful ballet of indecision. A modern masterpiece of traffic.

So, Next Time You're Behind The Wheel...

Remember that you're a decision-making machine. A finely tuned instrument of vehicular prowess.

Give yourself a pat on the back. You're navigating a complex world of metal, asphalt, and questionable driver etiquette. And you're (probably) doing a great job.

Unless you're the person who used the turn signal after turning. Then, maybe just think about things.

Also, a little patience is what we need on the roads.

Just remember, behind the wheel, you are the decider. The shaper of your automotive destiny. Now go forth and drive... responsibly!

And maybe invest in a good dashcam. Just in case.

Drive safe and try to enjoy the madness, because that is what the road is.

Now if you excuse me, I need to go decide what to have for dinner. Turns out, that's way harder than driving.
